It can be in first person. It's up to you how you write this. You can make it personal, or you can be more general if you want to write an essay about why other people write. You could even interview someone if you want. It's totally up to you!

o okay cool i want to do that my mom like so likes to write ill ask her cuz her and my grandma write stories for my brother and sister since i was 2! thanks you just gave me an idea!
