why text book? we don't really use much of it. whats the point of having teachers if we just do everything by the book? whats the point of text books if we have teachers that explain everything anyways?

Maybe not, but remember, it's only been the first day. As TIC progresses, you may have to refer to that ferret book. :O

We aren't doing everything by the book. It's a reference tool.

By the end of TIC, you aren't going to know absolutely everything. Maybe for one of your sites, you want to try something more advanced. Look in the book. :O

The textbooks are reference material. There aren't enough of us to cover everyone who forgets their tags (as unlikely as that sounds considering how many of us there are).
Who? What does it matter? Or…do you need a name to describe me? A definition by words is merely a means to deceive oneself. It's meaningless before the truth. What matters is how you perceive things. The slightest shift, then life and death no longer have any meaning

You have a textbook because...
... sometimes teachers aren't around when you have questions.
... a textbook is a good way to get an overview of the material. Many times, looking at the textbook will help you ask better questions.
... maybe you want to learn things before they're covered in lecture.
... sometimes the intricacies aren't fully explained in lecture.
... after the class is over, chances are you'll forget everything, so a textbook will help remind you of what you learned. =)

I still refer to the book and I took AIC back in 2003. I love the book.

Fellow TAs, get yourself a copy of the CSS Zen Garden book if you don't have one and your name isn't Alex Hong. :O
If someone wants one, I have two copies of the book. I'm willing to sell one... for less than what you would get it for at the book store of course. :)
