No, however they do, strongly, recommend it.
It's not death not to have it, but you'd be 90% better of with it.

To be completely and one hundred percent honest with, no, it is not absolutely essential to have the textbook. We're not going to do book checks or quizzes based on reading material.
However.
Consider the textbook to be HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by both me and Trev and basically any staff you run into. The Nutshell book is absolutely THE best tangible reference there is on the subjects we'll be covering in TIC and I honestly believe that having it will make your life much easier.
If you're short on cash or just can't be bothered, then whatever, don't get it. But in my humble opinion, it's just your loss if you don't. :P
