Throughout the course of TIC, we'll probably have a few movie trips where we'll try to get a small mob of people to... go see a movie together. (What a novel idea, I know.) More info:
-
Not compulsory, but open to everyone: staff, students, alumni, friends.
-
Viewing dates will probably be the Friday of/after the release of the film, but can be rescheduled if necessary.
-
Viewing times will probably be after the PM session (late afternoon/evening).
I'll be compiling a list of potential movies below. If there are any movies coming out sometime during ATDP that you want to see and that you think are appropriate for a group trip (summer blockbusters are a good bet), reply to this thread with your suggestions, and they might be added.
Once we have a decent selection, I'll put up a Condorcet poll, which lets you can rank the movies in order of preference (based on your interest and availability on the viewing date), and we'll probably watch the top three or so vote-getters. (Note: Popular vote can be overturned by dictator rule. Also known as the "if Lloyd wants to see Ratatouille, we're seeing Ratatouille" rule.)
Movies
Ratatouille (Pixar!)
Sicko (Michael Moore documentary about the US health care system)
June 29 release, June 2 viewing during Quad's visit?
Transformers (omg robots in disguise?!)
July 3 release, July 6 viewing.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (self-explanatory)
July 11 release, July 13 viewing.
Helvetica (documentary about typography and graphic design; potentially educational and/or boring)
Unknown screening date in Berkeley, check Helvetica screenings. There's a possibility that this won't even be within the timeframe of ATDP, but if it is, you can bet your ass I'm seeing it, at least. It'll probably be an "unofficial" trip, though, due to the nature of the film and the inconvenience of (probably) only one screening date/time. Tickets usually go up immediately after the screening is announced and sell out quickly, so if you're interested in this one, let me know as soon as possible so I can reserve a ticket for you.
