Awards System
Last updated at 2005/07/03 12:51:53 PDT by gandalf

In an attempt to promote user activity, I've established an internal ranking system to reward active users. Generally, I will award one point (perhaps more) for each quality post on a forum, comment on a blog, etc... Please do not post simply for the sake of upping your post count. I can detract from scores for disruptive posting. (Use your better judgement.) For special occasions, I may award more than one point. For example, I'll award the first five students to sign up and get involved in this community five points.

If you check the user list, you may see that your score is reported as current score/total score. The total score is the count of all the points a user has ever accumulated (including points awarded and detracted). The current score however decays exponentially (with a half-life of three months according to temporal) so that more recently awarded points have a greater weight. The following are the different ranks based on total point levels:

  • 0 - 4 points: New Member

  • 5 - 24 points: Padawan Learner

  • 25 - 49 points: Jedi Knight

  • 50 - 99 points: Jedi Master

  • 100+ points: Jedi Council Member

  • Random: As users accumulate points (and before they can select their own background colors), the colors of their posts are upgraded.

And only users who are Jedi Masters or Jedi Council Members can actually edit and choose their post color.
