Argumentive Essay

Steroids do not make baseball players better. Baseball fans and analyst such as Espn writers say they do and people get excited when they find someone taking them. Steroids are bad for people, but are not going to help you get better at baseball. People focus on Barry Bonds and say that his record should be discarded, but steroids do not make people better at hitting.
An example of a player who probably did take steroids in his career is Barry Bonds. People say that he took steroids throughout the mid to late 90’s. If you look closely at his homeruns he actually goes up steadily with his homeruns. So you could say that he actually improved from his rookie season instead of declining. Many players do improve from their rookie seasons, some do decline, but many do not.
People also have the argument that because Barry all of a sudden got bigger with the Giants than when he was with the Pirates that he must be on steroids. Truth is that you do not need to be big to hit homeruns, look at Sadaharu Oh, who hit over 800 homeruns in Japan. People could argue that Japanese pitchers are not as good as Major League pitchers. Then why did the Boston Red Sox spend fifty million dollars on a Japanese pitcher?
You do not need to be big in order to hit homeruns. All you need to have is fundamentals in your swing. Anyone can hit a homerun if they hit the ball on the sweet spot, the greatest part of the bat to hit the ball off from. It all depends on bat speed and where the ball makes contact with the bat.
Steroids do not make people hit homeruns more, they do make you bigger and scarier looking, but they do not make you hit more homeruns. Anyone can hit homeruns.
