This movie review was quite interesting to read. It showed not only what the "Sin City" movie was about but it showed the underlying or deeper meaning to the movie. There is a part in the movie review that I especially liked reading about, I enjoyed it because it made sense to me and I was in agreement. In this paragraph, the author states that : "I believe that this film, at its core, underneath, the violet veneer, is yet another story about people's undying sense that things are not right with the world. That we all, in fact, live in Sin City. And, going further, it's also yet another story about our undying sense that we need to be saved from such a place, because we won't be able to do it alone. That we all need a knight in shining armor. That we all need God. As such, "Sin City" is a great movie to rip apart......a methaphor that I hope the directors are proud of."
Even though, I have not watched the movie, this movie review has helped me understand the underlying meaning of it. From the previous quote that the author of the review said was understandable. Let me take it sentence by sentence, so I can show you the undying meaning. In the beginning, he starts out by stating that there is a undying meaning and that there is another story underneath the movie itself. He states that we all live in Sin City and that we need to saved from this place. Wow. This is deep. From the movie review, I image the movie to be very violet and inappropriate with the blood and glory with lots of killing, revenge and anger. But, when he says we live in this kind of world. That is really deep. Who could image that we the people, who blindly live our lives, not knowing what is happening to our world and the people in it, live in this "Sin city." I agree with it because its true. The reason that we people are so irgonant is because we choose not to learn or understand the world surrounding us, or we are just too lazy and busy with our own lifestyles to even care about what is happening to our surroundings. Next, the author says that we need to be saved from this place. This is quite another statement that really touches me.
It shows that we first need to adknowledge our positions and then learn how to change, survive, and escape out of this world. To change and be saved. So then the author states that we can't be saved unless we have a knight and shining armor, which he also quotes that is God. Here, I am unsure with his meaning. How could God save us? We need to help ourselves and change ourselves from this world. We need to change peoples minds and opinions about everything and everyone. We need to take away greed, anger, jealously, strave for power. But how? Humans are born natural in that way. We all at times, feel angry, jealous or greedy. So if God micraously came to save us. How will we change, unless he created us differently. Then we would have a new human race? Or will humans exist again? What if we don't get another chance to change? God can't be our knight and shining armor. It doesn't work. We need to start by changning ourselves and the people around us.
I wanted to point out that paragraph because it was important. To me, that was the most important piece in the article. It showed me the underlying meaning of the whole movie itself. It made me want to discover what the movie was really about. Our world, may eventually, be like Sin city, or better yet, it is already. So going back to the whole movie review, the beginning did not really please me, it described how the people were killed. Thats disgusting, no one needs three paragraphs on that. Then when he started discussing the concidental date that it came out. I thought that was also important because it leads to him talking about God and Chrisitian commentators. He says that Christian commentators have denounced the Sin city as debased and amoral. So what does the movie have to do with God and Christians. To me, I do not believe he stated why or it was not clear enough to show he did.
Then he ends with the whole prediction about what people will think about the movie in the future, he says they will simply just shake their heads. Which is so true. This movies seems eventhough the underlying meaning is important. The movie seems to me like a cheesy, Hollywood movie, that just wanted to make money by gloryfying the violence and killing in it. How many people will really think about the underlying meaning of the movie? People will just watch it because it entertains and they enjoy watching crazy violence and killing. This movie is pointless if you don't understand the meaning of it. So for me, this movie, I will not be planning to watch. And for the movie review, it explained what it was about and the meaning of it. enjoyed the meaning of it not what it is about.
