Half-way edited final draft, I'll re-edit it later
Barry Bonds, a man who has been accused several times of steroid enhancement, should have his home runs taken off the records during the period of time in which he took steroids. Bonds will not surpass Hank Aaron’s record; his steroids will break that record.
The BALCO investigation about Barry Bonds and his steroid usage has given the media solid evidence about the 751-home run slugger. The BALCO search led by Jeff Novitzky released much needed evidence that Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, two San Francisco Chronicle editors, used in a book, Game of Shadows, depicting how Barry Bonds used his steroids. Greg Anderson, Bonds’ personal trainer, is also discussed within the Game of Shadows as to how he vended drugs and steroids to Bonds.
Bonds first met Greg Anderson at a local gym in San Francisco. Anderson started to give Bonds more rigorous work out routines to help him pack on more muscle. Greg showed Bonds how steroids worked and he decided to hire Anderson as his personal trainer. On the first day of spring training in 1999, many people were surprised by Bonds’ new physique. In 2000, Anderson began to administer more steroids through injections and pills to Bonds. He kept track of how many steroids and what steroids should be injected each day so the peak of the steroid effects would be during Bonds’ games. Bonds was introduced to Victor Conte and BALCO through Anderson’s acquaintances, and started using the infamous The Cream and The Clear.
Many people have testified against Barry Bonds, not in court, but in private. Kim Bell, Bonds’ former girlfriend, used to watch him and Anderson, toting a bag, casually walk into a room to “talk” and emerge a few minutes later. After bulking up on steroids, Bonds became more and more abusive towards Bell, and she eventually broke up with him. Other former Giants teammates, such as Armando Rios, Benito Santiago and Bobby Estalella have gotten to know Anderson and about his trade because he often hung out at the team clubhouse. Anderson had other clients, including Gary Sheffield and Jason and Jeremy Giambi who also used the Cream and Clear that were introduced via Bonds.
IRS Agent Jeff Novitzky’s raid on BALCO’s headquarters resulted in several documents, including Bonds’ calendar that he used to record his steroid usage. He interrogated Conte and several other workers, learning about the distribution of The Cream, The Clear, and other steroids to elite athletes. He did reveal that Barry Bonds was one of his main customers, and that Greg Anderson distributed additional steroids and drugs to Bonds.
Bonds has been accused of several incidents of steroid usage, but yet he still denies the truth. The evidence that stands is very clear and MLB should take action and prosecute Barry Bonds for his wrongdoing.
