Saba Rahimian: Maintaining Iranian Traditions in Sacramento
2006/07/14 11:17:54 PDT by sabsrahimian

California has a large community of Iranians. In Fact southern California has one of the densest populations in all of the United States. Los Angeles has adopted the nickname of “Tehrangeles” and Westwood is commonly referred to have “Little Iran”. The communities are large and the sense of interaction remains strong; at least in the LA area. Sacramento California also has a relatively large Iranian community, but we have no nicknames or designated spots that we can call our own. Articles have clearly stated the success of Iranians in southern California, but Northern California does not have nearly as much recognition. Does this make the Iranian community in Sacramento much different or do they believe that they should still support and keep strength within their community? Do the Iranians in Sacramento embrace their culture or do they feel the need to deny it?
