My research question will tackle the obstacle of stereotypes. More specifically my question is: “Are stereotypes prevalent in Bay Area teens?” As a bi-racial girl living in a diverse like the Bay Area you would think that there would be no stereotypes. But, I want to if that in it self is a stereotype. I want to get to the root of prejudices. I would like research the causes of what makes teens believe stereotypes. As part of my research, I will be looking at the root of what could possibly promote these stereotypes. Could it be media? Parents? Could it even be people you call your friends? I want to know why we (teens) sometimes make up and even believe stereotypes. Is it because we are ignorant? Is it because we have no knowledge of cultures outside of our own? In my findings I hope I can understand why stereotypes in general happen.
